Seward Co-op Open to Everyone

Spunk is proud to announce the opening of the Seward Co-op Grocery & Deli. Join us at the opening of their new, greener location at 2823 E. Franklin Ave. on Thursday, Jan 8, at 10 a.m.

Spunk worked closely with Seward Co-op and their architects to design a “fresh” experience for customers through building exterior, non-toxic window graphics, signage and extended branding.

Art Directors Club—Annual 87: Award

Spunk is honored to be honored by the 87th Annual Art Directors Club Show for it’s entry of the Thought-in-Motion U of M Dance Poster. The poster, created to function as a gift and as a rewarding piece of promotion, is designed to allow the poster to be presented as a full letterpressed Thought-in-Motion triptych or broken apart into three unique and original posters. Check it out on page 205!

Spunk: Spreading Love, Green Inks and Farm Freshness!

Spunk Design Machine worked with architects to design a building for Seward Cooperative Grocery and Deli which carried the overall brand theory of “having the feeling of a trip down the fresh produce aisle.”

In efforts to keep to as non-toxic as possible, Spunk introduced the use of screen printing with non-toxic water based inks, rather than petroleum based vinyl graphics.

The Design Entrepreneur + Spunk

Spunk is proud to announce our inclusion in the new Steven Heller book The Design Entrepreneur. Spunk’s creation Talking Tools (a discussion-oriented game covering the topics of frustration management, expression of feelings, friendship, safety, cooperation, divorce, bereavement, and self-concept) is featured in the book.

The Design Entrepreneur is on sale now.

Here is more about the book:

Designers are used to working for clients, but there is nothing better than when the client is oneself. The computer age has made the design entrepreneur possible; the digital age has made multimedia integration a necessity for a wide range of endeavor. It is logical that graphic and product designers, who are skilled with the tools and masters of the aesthetics are now in the forefront of this growing entrepreneur movement.

Whether personal or collective, drive is the common denominator of all entrepreneurial pursuit; of course, then comes the brilliant idea; and finally the fervent wherewithal to make and market the result. Becoming a Design Entrepreneur is the first book to survey this new field and showcase the innovators who are creating everything from books to furniture, clothes to magazines, plates to surf boards, and more.

Through case studies with designers like Dave Eggers, Maria Kalman, Charles Spencer Anderson, Seymour Chwast, Jet Mous, Nicholas Callaway, Peter Girardi, Jordi Duro, and over thirty more from the United States and Europe, this book explores the whys, hows, and wherefores of the conception and production processes. The design entrepreneur must take the leap away from the safety of the traditional designer role into the precarious territory where the public decides what works and does not, and this is the book that shows how that is accomplished.

College of Design

Hey! The University of Minnesota College of Design was recently rebranded by Spunk in what was nearly a year long intensive rebranding collaborative project with a great client. Here is one of the first pieces of the larger brand roll out. Enjoy, my friends.

Poster Offensive 4 – Frank Stone Gallery

Poster Offensive 4 – Part Deux

We’ll be having the second Poster Offensive Friday, October 3rd at Frank Stone Gallery in Northeast Minneapolis. It’s gonna be a great party.

We’re proud to announce that Goodby, Silverstein & Partners from San Francisco, along with The Huffington Post, have included three posters that are a reaction to the Bush years. We’re excited for that they approached us about this. We’re big fans.

We will also have a couple of cool posters from our friend Paul Gardner of Florafauna. Cool stuff.

Chowgirls will be catering the event with a tasty assortment of vittles.

And, believe it or not, there will be beer.

Everything starts at 5pm. Get there early for the best selection! Remember, the posters went on sale once already.
